Trip to the ABC's (Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao) - September, 2005

We have lived in Caracas for over a year and finally began our assessment of which Caribbean islands we'd like to explore...  we'd  like to see them all!
We started closest to home...
and picked the islands which comprise the southern part of the Netherlands Antilles; Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao.

Our tour was quite complicated and took 2 weeks to complete.

We thought our flight would be easy, since Aruba is close to Venezuela ... but no, we had to connect in a small Venezuelan city and then go through customs at that point... a pain!

Once in Aruba, we toured around for a day or so... before taking a Windjammer ship to visit Curacao and Bonaire.

Upon arrival back in Aruba we stayed for another week and relaxed on the beaches.

The Windjammer ship we took was named the S.V. Polynesia (sailing vessel).  It is the biggest ship in the Windjammer fleet (4 masts) and has had a long sailing history.

I have been on this ship twice before and have really enjoyed the philosophy of the Windjammer company.  They sail tall ships to the smaller islands where the big, stuffy cruise ships cannot go.

The nickname of the packages are called 'barefoot cruises', as you don't have to wear shoes if you don't want to.

I had to create 5 different web pages to display the photos & stories from this trip.

The recommended viewing order is :  Aruba#1    Polynesia     Curacao      Bonaire   Aruba#2

Note: Each page will offer you the chance to move on to the next page, or return to this page.
